We give an introduction to earthquakes and how they affect buildings and structures. We explore the analysis methods that can be used in RSA for doing earthquake analysis and how they can be useful in design. The main focus is on the Modal response spectrum. We look at how the results are different based on which method we use and why they are different. We work within the framework of Eurocode and the Norwegian national annex.
The focus of this course is on the analysis methods but not the design of structural members according to the EN-1998.
After the course the participants are expected to be able to do earthquake analysis in RSA and seek out the results from the analysis.
